By Gail Carriger

Class is back in session….
Sophronia continues her second year at finishing school in style–with a steel-bladed fan secreted in the folds of her ball gown, of course. Such a fashionable choice of weapon comes in handy when Sophronia, her best friend Dimity, sweet sootie Soap, and the charming Lord Felix Mersey hijack a suspiciously empty train to return their chum Sidheag to her werewolf pack in Scotland. But when Sophronia discovers they are being trailed by a dirigible of Picklemen and flywaymen, she unearths a plot that threatens to throw all of London into chaos. With her friends in mortal danger, Sophronia must sacrifice what she holds most dear–her freedom.

Lydia’s Opinion

3 stars

I know that this novel may seem childish on first glance and is most probably targeted towards a younger reader but honestly it is still an amusing read. The characters are funny and though not necessarily relatable, since this novel takes place in the Victorian age. The characters therefore have different lifestyles and worries. Gail Carriger also meshes historical with fiction to create this action packed story, hence the werewolves and flyway men. I like Sophronia as a character, she’s tough and smart. I am always impressed with her reasoning and deductions. I also liked how all the characters together form an excellent team, each fulfilling an individual role within the team.

Gail Carriger’s style of writing is good, nothing much to say regarding this aspect of the novel. In all truthfulness I can’t say much about this novel, it was good – okay nothing special but I would still recommend it. I had read the previous books in the series, so I had to continue the series. To conclude this was a satisfactory novel, nothing amazing but still entertaining to read. Needless to say I will be reading the 4th book.
